AgWild is a Kenyan producer-owned company that supports regenerative livestock production and marketing at scale. Our goal is to generate value and support producers to raise livestock regeneratively, protect nature and build a resilient rural economy.
AgWild offers a fully integrated, 100% traceable and sustainable beef and lamb value chain from producer to customer, through our subsidiary the Well Hung Butcher.
We work with our producers to ensure quality and traceability, enabling the development of common standards and practices through the value chain.
AgWild is developing a Regenerative Hub focused on increasing the knowledge and capacity to support sustainable livestock production and land restoration in our region.
“When managed sustainably, livestock rangelands can help store carbon, support ecological biodiversity and contribute to sustainable economic development”.
We grow selected Kenyan beef cattle under natural grazing systems – ensuring a quality beef product that is both healthier and tastier than the competition.
We are investing in the market for quality Kenyan beef in order to strengthen the local economy - creating jobs and supporting future livelihoods in rural areas.
Our regenerative livestock system is building healthy soils while protecting biodiversity and Kenya’s iconic wildlife – by re-investing income in conservation initiatives.
AgWild is focused on raising Boran Cattle – a unique indigenous Kenyan breed adapted to grow in difficult forage conditions. Our livestock are raised on natural pasture, requiring no additional inputs such as high grain feed or growth hormones. The result is a healthy, lean beef that is good for people and for the landscape.
Our producers collectively manage ~12,000 head of Boran and local crossbred cattle under a holistic rangeland management system with the highest veterinary and animal welfare standards. All animals are electronically tagged and monitored, enabling a full individual history to be made available to any buyer, offering full traceability to the market.
People have raised cattle in co-existence with wildlife for millennia across the rangelands of East Africa. In the modern era, livestock production provides a land management tool that can support the maintenance of healthy ecosystems, while generating benefits to people in the form of jobs, revenue and taxes for the local economy.
In addition to our commercial herds AgWild is working to develop a stronger community livestock supply chain. We provide a market for up to 2,000 cattle per year from local pastoralists under a fair value price mechanism, and we are working to incentivise improvements in local livestock production to unlock greater value for small producers.
Livestock are responsible for a significant share of global carbon emissions, while industrial systems drive land degradation and deforestation to provide space for grazing and feed production. The future of livestock production belongs to systems that can provide a “net benefit” to the environment.
AgWild raises livestock in low rainfall areas under a regenerative management system, which mimics natural grazing practices to ensure proper recovery of grassland. By keeping our rangelands healthy we can produce better quality livestock while storing carbon, supporting biodiversity and enabling co-existence with wildlife – Kenya’s natural heritage.
AgWild proudly offers 100% Natural Grass Fed Kenyan Beef and Lamb sold through our modern livestock processing and marketing operation The Well Hung Butcher. We supply a wide range of wholesale and processed products to the retail sector and hotels, restaurants and catering (HORECA) throughout Kenya.
